Hand-folded and sculptural with waves of light peaking through the folds. The iconic pendant Model 172 was designed in 1971 by architect Poul Christiansen, but new sizes have been added up until 2009. The Model 172 is therefore available in many variations, making it possible to find a suitable size, whether the lamp is intended to hang over the kitchen or dining table, in the conference room, or in the hotel lobby.
Between 1969 and 1987 Poul Christiansen brought innovative and exciting dimensions to Le Klint's lampshades. Prior to his involvement the shades had been folded in pleats and in straight lines across the pleats. Poul Christiansen discovered that folding in mathematical curves gave the lampshades beautiful and unique sculptural shapes. His most famous creation is the SinusLine series which he developed by combining sine curves in such a way that they formed a lampshade when folded.
The standard foil has a very white and clean appearance. The material is made in Europe from a special lampshade foil (hard PVC). The material is UV resistant, fire retardant, and has an antistatic surface. Le Klint takes pride in having retained the old craft of folding lampshades in Odense. Folding lampshades is a difficult craft to learn, and it takes several years for the skillful folding technicians to master all their models. The Model 172 comes with a 118" white fabric cord.
