Inspired by the sporadic, perhaps discordant arrangement of barnacles on a rock surface, the 21 collection is fabricated from thin sheets of porcelain draped over inverted trumpet-shaped diffusers made of sandblasted borosilicate glass. The thin porcelain skin is allowed to dress the borosilicate core in whatever form occurs naturally - creating a unique shape in every iteration of the fabrication process. A strong contrast is established between the organically distributed soft light passing through the translucent white porcelain skin and the sharp, crisp light passing through the borosilicate glass diffuser.

21.5 is a random configuration of five 21 pendants hung from a round canopy. The pendants are designed to hang in a random configuration at times clustering and clumping together and others trailing off. The result is an ambient chandelier or field of light. Each diffuser houses a low voltage lamp. 21.5 uses strain relief connections, which allow the pendant lengths to be adjusted on site. Round canopy in white, black, or brushed-nickel come standard with 10 feet of coaxial cable. Additional cable lengths are available in increments of 10 feet, up to a maximum of 120 feet in special applications.

Bocci Creative Director Omer Arbel explores the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials as fundamental departure points for making work. As an alternative to a built-in transformer, Bocci recommends mounting transformers remotely in a close, accessible and hidden location for ease of long term maintenance. Installation to be done by certified electrician to ensure code compliance. Canopy attaches directly to a standard junction box.
