Woven wood to feel nature, Goz Tsuchi is named after soil. With the Goz Collection, the master of architecture Kengo Kuma shows us his vision of craftsmanship by listening to materials, their intrinsic constructive capacities, and their emotional content. Composed of three rugs, Tsuchi, Kiri, and Ame (terms for soil, fog, and rain in Japanese), the collection extols the genuine beauty of handmade objects and focuses on the coexistence of materials in nature. On a manual loom, expert craftsmen insert teak wood rods (circular, semicircular, or square in section) into a framework of undyed virgin wool.
Kengo Kuma was born in 1954 in Yokohama and studied architecture at the University of Tokyo and later at Columbia University. He founded the architectural firm Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo in 1990 and in Paris in 2008 and became a professor at the Graduate School of Architecture of the University of Tokyo in 2009. Kengo Kuma is one of the most renowned contemporary Japanese architects and his work is known worldwide for fusing architecture with nature and social responsibility.
