Simple, understated, welcoming. A steel tube frame is wrapped in natural rattan for a rustic, yet modern contour, a treat of a seat.

We love the warmth and texture of natural rattan, but it can make a design feel more traditional or vintage. We used geometric rigor to create a dimensional shape that feels contemporary. A single plane establishes the boundaries from the seat’s front edge to the top of the seat back. The side profile is determined by planes slicing through left and right sides.

Nestled within the outer frame is the organic shape of the seating surface. During early design explorations, we tried webbing and leather straps, but we could not produce the desired seating contours for maximum comfort. Rattan provides the necessary stiffness to hold the proper shape and allow the seat to echo the curves of a person's posterior and lower back. We added a plated leg to balance the use of such a traditional material with a more modern element, creating a dining chair that is more than a little beautiful.
